The Kannapolis Memorial Day Ceremony will be held in Veterans Park at 12 p.m. on Monday, May 30th. The ceremony will include remarks from guest speaker Major General Charles H. Swannack Jr. of the U.S. Army. The Kannapolis Youth Council has been awarded a state charter from the N.C. Department of Administration. They are one of 24 youth councils in North Carolina. Kansas City Barbeque judges spent Saturday very carefully judging over teams from six states who competed in the categories of chicken, ribs, pork and brisket at the Jiggy with the Piggy Festival in Kannapolis.   Judges, from several states, chose the winners based on taste, appearance and tenderness. With over 300 walkers/runners, the Jiggy with the Piggy 5K was a huge success Wednesday evening. We loved seeing all the participants in the Jiggiest Costume Contest. We hope everyone had a great time and will continue to participate in the rest of the Run Kannapolis Series this year. This morning the Kannapolis Police Department participated in the N.C. State Special Olympics Torch Run.   Members of Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office, City of Concord Police Department, Cabarrus Fire Marshal’s Office, Concord Fire, and Cabarrus County EMS ran to the Kannapolis city limits on Cannon Boulevard.   Kannapolis officers and area Special Olympic athletes were then handed the Flame of Hope and ran with it to the Rowan County border.
