It’s another great week to Discover Fun in Kannapolis! Downtown will be busy with many events and activities happening this week in the City.
The Concert in the Pak series continues this Saturday, June 20 with Josh Turner at Village Park. Village Park is located at 700 West C. Street and admission is free. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. with opener Caroline Keller.
Known for his unmistakable, buttery baritone and timeless songs like “Long Black Train” and “Why Don’t We Just Dance,” Turner’s five No. 1 singles include “Your Man,” of which the official music video surpassed 237 million views. Currently, Turner has 6 billion career global streams. His debut album,?Long Black Train,?was released over 20 years ago and was certified Platinum with nearly 1.5M album sales, 1.4M track downloads,?and over 331.2M life-to-date streams. The lead single of the same name was also certified 3x Platinum,?making up over 1.1M track downloads and over 275.7M global streams.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket for seating. Food and beverages will be available for purchase, and coolers are permitted but subject to search. Pets and smoking are not allowed, and children under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
The City of Kannapolis offers two free and convenient shuttle services for people visiting the City on concert days.
The Village Park Concert Bus operates from 5 to 11 p.m., with convenient pickup locations at the Nova Credit Union Overflow Lot, Cabarrus Health Alliance, City Hall, Village Park, and the NC Research Campus Parking Deck.
Visitors who wish to explore downtown before the concert can also take advantage of the West Avenue Shuttles, “Thunder” and “Lightning,” which operate from 5 to 10 p.m. These ADA-compliant electric golf carts provide service between the NC Research Campus Parking Deck, First Baptist Church, and the intersection of West Avenue and Cannon Baller Way near The Bank Food Hall. Please note that the West Avenue Shuttle does not travel to Village Park. You will need to transfer over to a Village Park Concert Bus when you are ready to arrive at the concert. The shuttles are available on Fridays and Saturdays all summer.

Enjoy the Gem Theatre’s Summer Movie Matinees this week! Join us at the Gem Theatre, Tuesday, June 16 for a showing of Detective Pikachu (PG) and Thursday, June 18 for a showing of Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax (PG). Juneteenth Celebration | Veterans Park | 3 - 9 p.m., Friday, June 19 | Free
The Kannapolis Juneteenth Community Collaboration Committee invites the community to celebrate Juneteenth on Friday, June 19, with a day dedicated to honoring history, celebrating progress, and building a brighter future together. The free event will take place from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Veterans Park (119 N. Main St., Kannapolis) and will feature live entertainment, inspiring speakers, local vendors, food trucks, and family-friendly activities.
The celebration continues with a free showing of Remember the Titans from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Atrium Health Ballpark (1 Cannon Baller Way, Kannapolis). Guests are encouraged to bring blankets or use stadium seating; strollers and chairs are not permitted on the field. Everyone is invited to join this exciting community event filled with joy, connection, and collective pride.

While you are Downtown, take advantage of the City of Kannapolis’ West Avenue Shuttles, Thunder and Lightning. The free shuttles run from 5–10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays to help you as you navigate free parking options downtown.
The shuttles make a continuous loop between four designated stops: the NCRC public parking deck, the top of the horseshoe sidewalk, First Baptist Church, and the Swanee Theatre. A shuttle arrives at each stop approximately every five minutes. Both shuttles are ADA accessible.
