The #walkforpeace has left their lunch spot and are now heading north along U.S. 29 toward China Grove. The monks are currently passing Hilbish Ford.

UPDATE 12:30 p.m., Friday, January 16

The #walkforpeace has arrived at Mt. Olivet for their lunch break.

We anticipate them leaving around 2 p.m. and beginning their journey north on U.S. 29.

The #walkforpeace is on its way to Kannapolis today. The monks are traveling north on U.S. 29 from Concord and are expected to arrive between 11 a.m. and 12 noon. They will stop for a lunch break at Mt. Olivet UMC in Kannapolis near Carolina Memorial Gardens. We expect them to resume their walk around 1:30 -2 p.m. north along U.S. 29 to China Grove.

We ask the public to be aware that there are also two funeral processions on U.S. 29 and funeral services after 1:30 p.m. today at Carolina Memorial Gardens.

Everyone will need to be patient and accommodating if you are in the U.S. 29 area today.

If you can - please avoid U.S. 29. You can expect intermittent traffic closures as our police officers work to keep the monks and the public safe. We do expect the monks to complete their walk thru Kannapolis around 4 p.m. this afternoon.
