Catch a Movie at the Gem Theatre | 111 Laureate Way

Stop by and see a film at the historic Gem Theatre. Now through May 6, Michael (PG-13) is showing. Beginning May 7, the film The Sheep Detectives (PG) will be on the screen. Tickets may be purchased online at, www.gem-theatre.com/Tickets or at the theatre.

Michael (PG-13) April 26 – May 6 | The story of the famous musician Michael Jackson, known as the King of Pop.

The Sheep Detectives (PG) May 7 – May 20 | Every night a shepherd reads aloud a murder mystery, pretending his sheep can understand. When he is found dead, the sheep realize at once that it was a murder and think they know everything about how to go about solving it.

Join us in Veterans Park at 6 p.m., this Thursday, May 7 for Thursdays on Main featuring Band of Oz. Veterans Park is located at 119 N. Main Street. 

The concert is free to the public. Children 18 & under must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. No pets or smoking please.

Food/drinks will be available for purchase, or attendees can bring their own food and nonalcoholic drinks. Coolers are allowed with no outside alcohol. Coolers are subject to search. Lawn chairs are permitted.

Experience John Schneider at the Swanee Theatre | 200 West Avenue | 8:10 p.m., Friday, May 8 | Ticketed Event

It’s Mother’s Day weekend. Bring your mom to see John Schneider.

John Schneider is easily one of America’s celebrated Television Stars from his iconic roll as (Bo Duke) on the beloved “Dukes of Hazzard. This well-known show broke records during its heyday. Now John Schneider is back! He is out on his 50 State Tour, selling out theaters and drawing huge crowds to every performance. As a musician he has a unique history of playing. Schneider has shared the stage with everyone from Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristopherson, and Conway Twitty.

Pueblos: Reclaiming Cultural Heritage Through the Arts | Afton Library (6095 Glen Afton Blvd) | 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. | Saturday, May 9 |Free

Join us for Pueblos: Reclaiming Cultural Heritage Through the Arts, a special family workshop celebrating the stories, songs, and traditions that connect generations and cultures.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., on Saturday, May 9 at the Afton Branch Library in Kannapolis. Bring the whole family and experience the power of culture, creativity, and connection—this event is free and open to all!

While you are in Downtown, take advantage of the City of Kannapolis’ West Avenue Shuttles, Thunder and Lightning. The shuttles will run from 5 – 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

The shuttles make a continuous loop between four designated stops: the NCRC public parking deck, the top of the horseshoe sidewalk, First Baptist Church, and the Swanee Theatre. A shuttle will arrive at each stop approximately every 5 minutes. The shuttles are both ADA accessible.
