The City of Kannapolis will activate its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) tomorrow morning, Saturday, January 24, in preparation of Winter Storm Fern, which is forecasted to bring detrimental winter weather to the City and North Carolina.
Key City staff will operate in the EOC to coordinate a comprehensive response and recovery which could extend for several weeks if the storm’s predicted impact is significant.
The EOC will serve as the central coordination hub for all city departments and will facilitate direct communication and collaboration with Rowan and Cabarrus County officials, state emergency management agencies, and utility partners. This coordinated approach ensures a unified and efficient response to protect public safety and minimize disruptions to essential services.
City officials are urging residents to take this weather event seriously and to make necessary preparations now. The storm is expected to bring potentially dangerous conditions including significant ice accumulation and strong winds that could result in extended power outages and hazardous travel conditions.
We will keep you updated as the storm moves through our City.
