Next week, N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will be working in the vicinity of U.S. 29 and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in Kannapolis, continuing work to replace the existing bridge. Contractor NJR Group, Inc., of Albemarle started the $5 million project last year.

Starting next week, the contractor will be installing drainage under U.S. 29, requiring closures and detours for traffic as follows:

Monday – Wed nights (Feb. 23 – 25) 8 p.m. – 6 a.m.

Northbound U.S. 29 detour: Dale Earnhardt Boulevard to S. Little Texas Avenue to Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue

Sunday - Tuesday nights (March 2 - 4) 8 p.m. – 6 a.m.

Southbound U.S. 29 detour: Jackson Park Road to East Avenue to N. Ridge Avenue to Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.
