The Kannapolis City Council recently approved $116,000 for its 2025-2026 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) fund allocation. The funds are designated for activities that benefit low- and moderate-income residents within the City of Kannapolis.

Grants were awarded to:

  • AYA House, Inc. - $30,000 to cover operating expenses for transitional housing
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters - $5,000 – to support youth activities with an intentional focus on children’s mental health strategies.
  • Cabarrus County Partnership for Children – $5,000 – Public Safety services such as car seats, cribs, mattresses, pack and play, parental education
  • Cabarrus Health Alliance - $5,000 to provide dental services for uninsured Kannapolis City School children
  • Cabarrus Rowan Community Health - $10,000 to provide dental services for uninsured/low income adults
  • Classroom Central - $5,000 to provide free school supplies to Kannapolis City School (KCS) teachers
  • Conflict Resolution - $5,000 to sustain crime prevention services for 6 different programs and to cover overhead expenses for Teen Court and Truancy program
  • Cooperative Christian Ministry - $5,000 to support staff salaries to assist families and individuals in crisis
  • Dream Create Grow Foundation - $5,000 to fund scholarship program for children’s therapy services and equipment
  • Elder Orphan Care - $5,000 – to cover operating expenses for mobile pantry and household products for adults over the age of 60
  • Faith Fellowship Church - $2,500 – to help with the needs of the homeless.
  • Families First - $5,000 to help cover costs of homebased under-resourced childcare networks
  • Main Street Market - $2,500 to provide healthy foods to all in the community and support local farmers using employees of the Getting Ahead Graduates.
  • Midway Opportunity House - $5,000 to cover operating costs for day shelter program for the homeless
  • Peek into a New Horizon: Peek Next Gen - $5,000 – supports afterschool programming
  • Present Age Ministries - $5,000 – operating costs for human trafficking prevention programming in schools
  • Prosperity Unlimited, Inc. - $5,000 for providing comprehensive housing counseling
  • PURE Excellence - $5,000 – professional development for childcare providers
  • Rowan Helping Ministries - $5,000 will provide support for the Crisis Assistance Program who assist those experiencing financial hardship
  • Vision for Life - $5,000 for mentoring and parenting programs in the Kannapolis Schools
  • City of Kannapolis - $1,000 – to assist agency with unmet needs

The funds come from the federal Community Development Block Grant Program. Each year Kannapolis receives funds that can be awarded to non-profit organizations who deliver pertinent services to residents who are in need.  Applications are reviewed by the Community Improvement Commission and city staff, who present funding recommendations to City Council.
