We have several trees that have fallen and downed power lines. Stoplights in the areas of Kannapolis Parkway and Rogers Lake Road are out. Treat any intersection without working stoplights as a four way stop.

The Kannapolis Police Department invites the community to attend its open house, from 5 to 8 p.m., on October 17, at Kannapolis City Hall and Police Headquarters, 401 Laureate Way. This event is free to the public.
During the event there will be guided tours of the police department, displays and demonstrations from each individual police division. Meet our police officers and K-9 officers. Child fingerprinting kits will also be available for parents. Enjoy free popcorn and slushies...

Due to the rainy forecast for this weekend, we are rescheduling the Fire Truck Parade and Kid’s Firefighter Costume Contest to 5:45 p.m. on October 14.
The Sunday Music Series Concert in Veterans Park scheduled for this Sunday, October 2 is also cancelled.

Show us your artistic abilities. The City of Kannapolis Police Department is hosting a children’s coloring contest. Children between the ages of 4 and 10, are encouraged to enter the contest by 5 p.m. on October 31. Children may use anything (crayons, markers, paint, to color the Kannapolis Police Department’s uniform patch. The Top Three winners will receive gifts.

N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will soon start building a roundabout at the intersection of N.C. 3 and Odell School Road. The $990,000 project was awarded earlier this spring to NJR Group Inc. out of Albemarle.

The City of Kannapolis Parks and Recreation Department has opened registration for Youth Basketball for children 3-15 years old. Registration is from September 12 - November 6.
The registration fee is $40 for Kannapolis residents and $60 for non-residents, this includes the cost of uniforms, practices and games. Participants are required to have proper athletic shoes.

The Toast of Kannapolis returns this year, 6 – 9 p.m., on September 23, inside Kannapolis City Hall. A number of local wineries and breweries will share samples of their best selections.
(Cabarrus Brewing, 26 Acres, High Branch and Douglas Vineyards are confirmed).
