Today, officials from the City of Kannapolis and the Lansing Melbourne Group (LMG) broke ground on a mixed-use district which will bring apartments, a hotel, restaurants, a brewery, and retail space to downtown Kannapolis. Early this morning a water main break occurred in downtown Kannapolis on First Street near the Gem Theatre. This is one of the oldest waterlines in the City. Kannapolis Public Works Department crews are working to repair the line. Some water customers may be experiencing periods of low water pressure and outages in the immediate vicinity of Downtown Kannapolis area due to the water main break. On Tuesday, March 12, the Kannapolis Fire Department welcomed seven new firefighters to its ranks. The new recruits completed four months of fire, rescue and medical training prior to officially joining the department.
