Four new officers have joined the Kannapolis Police Department. The officers have completed their basic law enforcement training and are now starting their field training. The new officers are Evan Anderson, Austin Purser, Devin Steele, and Ataurus Tennyson. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has awarded a $19.2 million 5-year grant, pending the availability of funds, to a consortium of North Carolina university researchers who will apply cutting-edge analytical techniques to nutrition research. January 27, 2022 8 p.m.  Repairs are complete and water service is restored.  5 p.m. There is a water main break in the Summers Walk Subdivision area.  Crews are working now to repair the line as quickly as possible.

The City of Kannapolis is once again planning the annual Jiggy with the Piggy Festival to be held the weekend of May 13-15, 2022. The festival will take place in Downtown Kannapolis and the City is seeking vendors to participate in the event. The City of Kannapolis Parks and Recreation Department has opened registration for Youth Baseball, Softball and Soccer. Registration closes March 6.   Youth Baseball and Softball Children must be between the ages of 5-15 as of May 1. The registration fee is $40 for Kannapolis residents and $60 for non-residents, which includes the cost of uniforms, practices, and games. Scholarships and sponsorships are available. Garbage/ recycling collection will be on a one day delay this week for all routes in the City of Kannapolis   We were unable to collect Friday's routes last Saturday due to icy streets so we will collect Friday's routes today.    Monday's route will be collected tomorrow and so forth.    Yard waste and leaf collection will operate on a regular schedule.   Thank you for your patience as we work to get all our schedules back to norm...

Rider Transit service is CANCELED today. Rider service will resume at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday,  January 23. Friday's garbage route collection delayed until Monday.  City staff have been busy as the weather produced snow-covered roads throughout the area.
