Kannapolis Police Chief Terry Spry has announced several leadership promotions in the police department. John Cramer has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant in the Patrol Division, Jamie Hyatt has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant in the Community Services Unit, Both Alex Quigley and Ramsey Nimer have been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in the Patrol Division.

John Cramer began his career with Kannapolis Police Department in 2018. He has served the department as a Negotiator, a Field Training Officer, and worked in the Felony Investigations Unit. He earned designation as a Master Police Officer in 2024.

John received a Life Saving Award in 2019, as well as a Unit Commendation for exemplary service in 2023. He was also awarded an Individual Commendation for his exemplary service in the performance of duty while helping law enforcement agencies and citizens living in Western North Carolina cope with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene in 2025.

Jamie Hyatt began her career with Kannapolis Police Department in 2012. She worked as a Patrol Officer until she returned to her hometown of Sylva. In Sylva, she became a K-9 Handler and was promoted to Sergeant. She has also worked as a Deputy Sheriff with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. She returned to the Kannapolis Police Department in 2023 and is a Field Training Officer and a Master Police Officer.

A graduate from Tuscola High School in Waynesville, NC, she earned her Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Southwestern Community College. Jamie is married with one son, Roan.

Alex Quigley joined the Kannapolis Police Department in 2015. He served as a Patrol Officer before transferring to the Criminal Investigations Division as a Felony Investigator. He earned status designation as Police Officer II in 2019 and Master Police Officer in 2021 through the agency’s lateral advancement program. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2020. He has been a Sergeant in the Patrol, Felony Investigations, Recruitment and Training and Community Services Divisions. He has served as an instructor for the department since 2023 and is now in the Patrol Division.

In addition to his regular duties, Alex is certified polygraph examiner. He was awarded Advanced Law Enforcement Certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission.

Alex is a graduate of Northwest Cabarrus High School and obtained his master's degree from East Carolina University. He is married to Brittany and they have one son, James.

Ramsey Nimer began his career with Kannapolis Police Department as a Patrol Officer in 2017. He was designated as Police Officer I, became a member of the Honor Guard, and a Field Training Officer. He has served as an instructor for the department and was promoted to Sergeant in 2022. He has been a Sergeant in the Patrol and Recruitment and Training Divisions. Ramsey earned status designation as Police Officer II and Master Police Officer and is now assigned to the Patrol Division.

Ramsey was awarded Advanced Law Enforcement Certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission. He is a graduate of Concord High School, obtained his master's degree from Liberty University and is currently pursuing his Doctorate Degree. He and his wife Wendy have two sons, Riley and Eithan, and a daughter, River.
