The Kannapolis Police Department recently hosted its annual awards ceremony, honoring officers and staff members whose professionalism, courage, and dedication have made a meaningful impact on the community during the last year. The ceremony recognized individuals for exceptional performance, lifesaving actions, outstanding leadership, and unwavering commitment to public safety. Through their service, these recipients exemplify the department’s mission and the highest standards of law enforcement in the City of Kannapolis.

Receiving awards were:

Life Saving Award: Officer Nathan Feinstein

Officer Feinstein came upon a serious traffic crash while traveling to work. Recognizing that a child was involved in the crash and required immediate medical attention, Officer Feinstein quickly provided aid by checking for a pulse and ensuring the child’s airway remained open while EMS was requested.

The child was airlifted for further treatment and survived the crash.

Life Saving Award: Officers Nathan Feinstein, Jonathan Lambert, and Sam Small, Jr.

These officers responded to a car accident where they found a person had been injured and was in urgent need of medical assistance.

Officers immediately stepped in to provide lifesaving care. Through their quick, coordinated response, the officers stabilized the victim until EMS transported the person to the hospital, where they survived their injuries.

Life Saving Award: Officers Evan Anderson and Zachary Johnson

Officers Zachary Johnson and Evan Anderson responded to a residence for a medical emergency involving a person in critical condition. Upon arrival, they quickly assessed the situation and provided immediate lifesaving aid.

Johnson and Anderson secured the scene and applied tourniquets to control severe bleeding while ensuring the person remained stable until Kannapolis Fire Department and Cabarrus County EMS personnel arrived. The person has since recovered.

Commendation: Lieutenant Jason Hinson

Lieutenant Jason Hinson responded to a critical incident involving an individual experiencing an emotional crisis who was threatening to harm themselves and others. Demonstrating exceptional patience, compassion, and communication skills, Lieutenant Hinson established a rapport with the individual and earned their trust.

Through calm, deliberate de-escalation, he successfully persuaded the individual to surrender their weapon peacefully, bringing the incident to a safe resolution and preventing injury to the individual, responding officers, and the public.

Commendation: Investigator Joseph Galyan

Through nearly a year of persistent investigative work, Investigator Joseph Galyan successfully identified and develop evidence against an individual responsible for distributing illegal substances that resulted in the death of another person.

His diligence, attention to detail, and unwavering commitment to the investigation ultimately led to the arrest of the suspect. Investigator Galyan's tireless efforts brought accountability in a complex and challenging case while demonstrating exceptional dedication to seeking justice for the victim and their family.

Life Saving Award: Investigator Brandon Crowe and Investigator Cody Franklin

Investigators Brandon Crowe and Cody Franklin responded to a shooting involving a 16-year-old who had sustained a life-threatening injury.

Acting quickly under extremely challenging circumstances, they applied tourniquets to control the bleeding and provided lifesaving care until emergency medical personnel arrived. Their swift actions helped stabilize the individual, who was transported to the hospital for further treatment and ultimately survived.

Commendation: Officer Andrew Coleman, Sergeant Christopher Hamilton, and Officer Denver Scaggs, Jr

Sergeant Christopher Hamilton, Officer Andrew Coleman, and Officer Denver Scaggs, Jr. responded to a call involving a person experiencing a mental health crisis. Upon arrival, they encountered a highly emotional and potentially dangerous situation that required patience, professionalism, and careful communication.

Throughout the incident, the officers worked together to deescalate the situation while ensuring the safety of the individual, family members, and others nearby. Their calm approach, effective communication, and coordinated response ultimately allowed the person to be safely taken into custody and transported to the hospital for treatment.

The City of Kannapolis congratulates each of these officers on their well-deserved recognition and thanks them for their unwavering commitment to protecting and serving the community.
