Kannapolis firefighters are currently working with Enbridge, the natural gas provider, to contain a gas leak on South Cannon Boulevard near Dakota Street. The leak was caused when a construction crew struck a natural gas line.

Two businesses in the immediate area have been evacuated as a precaution.

South Cannon Boulevard is currently closed at Dale Earnhardt Boulevard. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

No injuries have been reported. The street closure is expected to be approximately 1–3 hours.
