NC By Train’s new Rail & Ride pass is making it easier for passengers traveling between Raleigh and Charlotte to connect to public transit at stops along the state’s intercity passenger rail route. Whether traveling for a game, a festival, a meeting or a weekend getaway, NC By Train and the Rail & Ride pass help passengers go further, without the stress of traffic or parking.

“Rail & Ride is about improving passenger experience and connectivity,” said N.C. Department of Transportation Rail Division Director Jason Orthner. “We’re proud to partner with local transit agencies to give our passengers a smoother, more connected travel experience from start to finish.”

With Rail & Ride, the trip doesn’t stop at the station. Customers can connect to participating local transit as part of their NC By Train ticket purchase, making it easy to reach their destination without a car.

“A truly multimodal transportation network relies on logical connections between different modes of transportation, and programs like ‘Rail & Ride’ ensure that riders can reach their destinations, whether it is across the state or in their own community,” said NCDOT Integrated Mobility Division Director Brennon Fuqua.

The program includes access to the following participating transit systems along the NC By Train corridor:

Passengers can enter their trip information at NCByTrain.org to receive a Rail & Ride code by email. The code can be redeemed through participating transit agencies’ mobile apps for bus or light-rail connections at no additional cost.

NC By Train continues to see strong ridership growth, serving hundreds of thousands of passengers annually and connecting North Carolina’s major cities and destinations with safe, reliable service. The new Rail & Ride program supports NCDOT’s ongoing efforts to expand transportation options, improve connectivity, and provide convenient alternatives to driving.
