The North Carolina Housing Finance Agency recently recognized the City of Kannapolis for 25 years of working together to improve housing opportunities for residents of the City. The Kannapolis Fire Department recently held its annual Awards and Appreciation Banquet at the Laureate Center in the Kannapolis City Hall. Construction on two Kannapolis Fire Department stations is anticipated to begin later this year. Fire Station 2 and 3 have exceeded their lifespan and the decision to build new facilities was made after studies showed the stations would cost more to renovate than to replace. The City of Kannapolis is seeking vendors for the annual Jiggy with the Piggy event that will be held Friday, May 5 through Saturday, May 6, 2017. Sponsored by Smithfield, Jiggy with the Piggy has been a tradition for the past 37 years that includes vendors, entertainment, family-friendly activities, a BBQ competition, and more. Each year hundreds of volunteers in the community help the City of Kannapolis make the Jiggy with the Piggy Festival a huge success. The volunteers include members of four charitable organizations in the City. The City of Kannapolis has released the 2017 Recycling Calendar. In addition to the schedule for 2017, the calendar includes information on what items may be recycled. The calendar also details the holiday schedule for garbage/recycling collection. There is only two days garbage and recycling will be affected due to a holiday – Thanksgiving and Christmas.
