Kannapolis City Manager Mike Legg presented the proposed Fiscal Year 2017 budget to the Kannapolis City Council Monday evening. The proposed FY 2017 Total Budget is $64,012,300. The budget includes no property tax increase. The current tax rate is .63 cents per $100 valuation - a home valued at $150,000 pays $945 annually in property taxes. The budget places an emphasis on funding public safety (fire and police) departments as well as addressing growth in the western portion of the City. ...

All City of Kannapolis offices will be closed on Monday, May 30 in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. Offices will reopen on Tuesday, May 31 at 8 a.m.  There will be no disruption in garbage and recycling collection service. All Kannapolis parks will be open for regular operating hours from dawn until dusk. The Kannapolis Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony will be held in Veterans Park on Monday, May 30th. The parade begins at 11:30 a.m. and travels down Main Street in Kannapolis from the North Carolina Research Campus parking deck to Veterans Park. At the conclusion of the parade the ceremony will begin with Retired United States Air Force Colonel Quincy Collins and United States Congressman Richard Hudson delivering remarks. On Friday, June 3rd, Kannapolis Fire Department will host Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing/Deaf-Blind Training at Fire Station #1 (300 Firehouse Drive) from 9:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. with lunch to follow.  This training is the first of its kind in North Carolina and is made possible by N.C. In recognition of National Police Week and in memory of our own Officer Roger Dale Carter, who was killed in the line of duty on December 31, 1993, Kannapolis Police Department had nine representatives participating in the Bike2DC ride May 9-12.
