The N.C. Metropolitan Mayors Coalition, a bipartisan group representing the mayors of the state’s larger cities, has elected Asheville Mayor Esther Manheimer as its new chair. A recent audit report of the City of Kannapolis’ finances shows the City is financially sound and therefore received a “clean” or “unmodified” opinion. The unmodified opinion from the auditors of Martin and Starnes, an independent auditing firm, means the City has no weaknesses, no issues and no findings that would signal any problems with the financial health of the City. The Kannapolis City Council has approved funding for aesthetic improvements along Main Street. In 2013 Council adopted a Corridor Appearance Improvement Program for Cannon Boulevard. The council is now extending the program to include Main Street. Businesses are encouraged to participate by applying for funds to improve the appearance of their property. A Kannapolis intersection will soon undergo changes designed to reduce the frequency and severity of crashes in that area. The intersection of Brantley Road and Little Texas Road will become a multi-way stop beginning Wednesday, Nov. 18. That means all traffic must stop at the intersection before proceeding with caution.
