The City of Kannapolis is once again planning the annual Jiggy with the Piggy Festival to be held May 6 and May 7. Fifteen people have been honored for completing all seven 5K events as part of the Run Kannapolis Series. In its first year over 1,000 people walked or ran in at least one of the seven 5K events held in the City. All City of Kannapolis offices will be closed on Thursday, December 24, and Friday, December 25 in observance of the Christmas holiday. There will be no garbage, loose leaf and recycling collection service on Christmas Day. We will operate on a one day delay. Friday’s routes will be collected on Saturday. Hundreds of people attended a ceremony Monday to dedicate the new Kannapolis City Hall and Police Headquarters. The building is located at 401 Laureate Way. The ceremony featured a formal flag raising ceremony with a Police and Fire Honor Guard.  Kannapolis City Council heard preliminary findings from the site analysis phase of the downtown master planning process on Monday evening. The site analysis, conducted by the Development Finance Initiative (DFI), studied the downtown property owned by the City of Kannapolis to determine the scale of potential development and appropriate mix of uses for revitalizing the downtown district. The Kannapolis City Council has approved funds to construct a new Fire Station 2 and to do renovations to Fire Station 3. Members of City Council recently heard a presentation from Fire Chief Ernie Hiers on the facility needs of the Fire Department.
