All City of Kannapolis offices will be closed on Monday, September 7 in observance of the Labor Day holiday. There will be no disruption in garbage and recycling collection service. All Kannapolis parks will be open for regular operating hours from dawn until dusk. The Kannapolis Fire Department welcomes four new firefighters to their team. All four firefighters were previously part of the department’s part time Reserve Program. The recruits spent six weeks in classes to improve the skills they already possessed as well as to learn new ones as they transition from part-time status to full-time employees. Beginning September 14 the Kannapolis City Council will hold work session meetings the second Monday of every month at 6 pm. The September, October and November work sessions will be held at the Public Works Facility on Bethpage Road. Currently, the City Council meets the second and fourth Mondays of every month to discuss and vote on issues pertaining to City business. During the regularly scheduled meeting of the Kannapolis City Council Monday the council members approved a contract to hire a property management firm, NAI Southern Real Estate, for the downtown properties. The City is in the final stages of taking ownership of approximately 50 acres of downtown buildings and properties. Kannapolis Fire, Police, and Parks & Recreation staff joined the American Red Cross in hosting Camp Ready Kids at New Hope Lutheran Church in Kannapolis this week.
