The Kannapolis Farmers Market will open for the 2024 season on Thursday, May 2. The market will be held every Thursday, 4-7 p.m. at the corner of Vance St. and Dale Earnhardt Blvd. The market continues through September. The Kannapolis Youth Council recently had the opportunity to give back to their community by helping other teens. Youth Council students, ranging from 9th-12th grade, collected toiletries for teens who live in a local orphanage. Items collected included toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, laundry detergent, deodorant, and toilet paper. The Kannapolis Police Department has selected the winners of their police badge coloring contest. Over 270 entries were received from Kannapolis children. Elementary school children were asked to submit a creative design by coloring a Police Department’s uniform patch. Members of the Police Department selected a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner, and Chief Terry Spry selected a “Chief’s Choice” winner to receive gifts. Beginning April 6, Spring hours for the attractions at Village Park and Atrium Health Ballpark go into effect. The Rotary Express and the Carousel will operate on weekends only. Saturdays, 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. Sundays, noon - 6 p.m. starting Saturday, April 6. Tickets are $1.50 for each attraction and may be purchased at the park. Village Park is located on West C. Street. The City of Kannapolis will celebrate 10 years of the Jiggy with the Piggy Festival with a variety of fun events including a new attraction: pig racing. Improvements to Village Park on West C Street are underway. The expansion of the amphitheater includes the addition of a hospitality “green” room, bathrooms and dressing rooms for performers, and storage. Other work happening at Village Park includes renovations of the main program building, replacing patio furniture, repairing brickwork around light poles and shelter sidewalks.
