The City of Kannapolis Parks and Recreation Department has opened registration for Youth T-Ball, Baseball, Softball and Soccer. Registration will close February 26. Youth T-Ball, Baseball, and Softball: Children must be between the ages of 5-15 as of May 1. The City of Kannapolis offices will be closed January 15, in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. Offices will reopen on January 16. There will be no delay in the collection of garbage, recycling, bulky waste, or e-waste. Yard debris and loose-leaf collection will not be collected on Monday, January 15, but will be collected on your next regularly scheduled day. Tuesday-Friday collection of loose leaves and yard waste will operate on a regular schedule.

The Kannapolis YMCA recently honored Kannapolis City Council member, Mr. Doug Wilson, as a legacy member. Doug Wilson has been a faithful member since 1960, making it 63 years! The YMCA recognized that Doug has also been a donor, volunteer coach and a member of the board of managers over the years. The Y presented Doug a signature basketball to honor his service.

Five new police officers, Anthony Irving Jr., Jamie Hyatt, Jody Kerr, Isaac Heggins II, and MacKenzie Rogers have joined the Kannapolis Police Department. Irving, Kerr, Heggins and Rogers have all been assigned to patrol squads and will receive additional training by two experienced police officer mentors.
