The City of Kannapolis has received three top national recognitions. World Atlas has named Kannapolis as one of the top cities to retire to in North Carolina. World Atlas cited the City’s Discover a Healthy Life brand, affordable housing, parks and recreation amenities and more. “Newcomers to Kannapolis are fortunate to join a community that prioritizes well-being above all else,” the article noted. Services and facilities that older residents may need were also cited as a reason for the City to receive the designation.
Kannapolis has also been selected as one of the Top Seven Hidden Gem Cities in the United States for Retirement Affordability by The Travel. The Travel is a group of writers who work with travel experts around the country including Trip Advisor, Kayak, National Geographic and others. The Travel noted that Kannapolis is a hidden gem that offers a comfortable small town lifestyle, mild climate, abundance of parks, close proximity to international airports, accessible healthcare, and many amenities such as Kannapolis Cannon Ballers. The other top seven hidden gem cities included Savannah, GA, La Crosse, WI, Columbia, SC, Omaha, NE, Richmond, VA, and Grand Rapids, MI.
The Boyd Company, a national site selection company, has named Kannapolis one of the top East Coast cities in the United States for businesses to locate their corporate administrative offices. The Boyd Company studied suburban cities across the country and evaluated critical costs that businesses look for when moving to new locations. The study looked at factors such as costs of labor, electric power, land and construction, property sales, taxes, and travel accessibility. Kannapolis ranked as one of the best cities in the country when looking at these costs. Only two other N.C. cities made the list – High Point and Wilmington.

These designations come on the heels of being named a Top U.S. Location for Corporate Headquarters in 2022 and continued investment by developers and companies. The City Council, city staff and our partners have worked hard to revitalize Kannapolis over the last decade. We are proud to be recognized as a top city in the United States,” commented Kannapolis Mayor Darrell Hinnant.
