The Government Finance Officers Association has presented the Distinguished Budget Award to the City of Kannapolis. The award is given to municipalities who publish a budget that is a policy document, an operations guide, a financial plan and is used as a communications device. The City of Kannapolis budget document was found to be proficient in those four categories and met 14 mandatory criteria in order to achieve the award.

The City of Kannapolis offices will be closed Friday, April 10, in observance of the Easter Holiday. Offices will reopen for employees on Monday, April 13. Per Executive Order 124 issued by Governor Cooper on March 31, the City of Kannapolis will not disconnect residential utility service for non-payment or assess late fees through May 31.
