The City of Kannapolis is excited to be a finalist for the Heavy Hitters Award in the category of Top Hospitality and Entertainment Development for the renovations to the Gem Theatre.

The award winners will be announced by Charlotte Business Journal staff, who host the event, in October at a special ceremony.

The City was nominated for the recent renovations to the historic building and the successful reopening of the theatre. Over 60,000 tickets have been purchased since the theatre reopened in May 2024. Renovations included new seats, flooring, plaster restoration, painting, new movie screen, curtains, sound equipment and more.
