Habitat for Humanity Cabarrus County proudly celebrated its 177th home dedication on March 4, 2025, honoring the perseverance and dedication of new homeowner Tracy. A hardworking mother raising her son on her own, Tracy’s journey to homeownership was marked by determination, faith, and an unwavering commitment to building a better future.
Tracy applied twice before being accepted into the Habitat Cabarrus homeownership program. Instead of giving up, she reapplied the following year with the encouragement of her father. After being in the program for three years, juggling motherhood and a full-time job while completing her sweat equity hours, Tracy officially became a homeowner yesterday.
"God orchestrated each step of this process," said Willmarie Austin, Director of Development and Homeownership at Habitat Cabarrus. "Tracy worked tirelessly to achieve this milestone, and we couldn't be more proud of her."
Tracy’s new home is located in the City of Kannapolis, an area important to her due to her desire to ensure her son continues to receive what she describes as an exceptional education and services from Kannapolis City Schools. The stars aligned when the City of Kannapolis donated the lot to Habitat Cabarrus, making it possible for Tracy to build a future in the community she loves.
Adding to the day’s excitement, Tracy received a surprise from the Warrick Dunn Foundation’s Home for the Holidays program. When she stepped into her new home, she discovered it had been fully furnished by former NFL star Warrick Dunn and his charity team—an unexpected and life-changing gift. The Home for the Holidays program carefully selects families and organizations that align with their mission of helping families achieve stability through homeownership.
Habitat Cabarrus is grateful to all the partners, donors, and volunteers who made this home possible, including the City of Kannapolis and the Warrick Dunn Foundation. Tracy’s story is a powerful reminder that persistence and community support can change lives, one home at a time.
