Improvements to Village Park on West C Street are underway. The expansion of the amphitheater includes the addition of a hospitality “green” room, bathrooms and dressing rooms for performers, and storage. Other work happening at Village Park includes renovations of the main program building, replacing patio furniture, repairing brickwork around light poles and shelter sidewalks.

City of Kannapolis offices will be closed Friday, March 29, 2024, in observance of the Easter Holiday. Offices will reopen on Monday, April 1, 2024. Garbage and recycling services will operate on a regular schedule. There will be no yard waste collection on Friday. It will be collected on a regular schedule the following week. A portion of West Avenue will be closed this weekend. West Avenue will be closed from Cannon Baller Way to Vance this Friday, March 15, and will remain closed until early Monday, March 18. The closure is to ensure pedestrian safety during events happening downtown over the weekend. Crews are busy painting the City’s newest water storage tank this week. The crews are using a stencil and hand painting the City’s logo on the tank. Each letter in the word “Kannapolis” is 42 inches tall and the cupola graphic is 20 feet tall.   The water tank is located off I-85 at Old Beatty Ford Road at the new Overlook 85 Industrial Park and the Kannapolis Crossing Development. The water tank is 200 feet tall and will hold 300,000 gallons of water.

Main Street across from the Kannapolis Train Station is now ready for you to enjoy.  The parklet is an outdoor seating and dining area where you can enjoy a meal, snack, or a drink from any nearby business, share conversations with friends, read a book, take a break from shopping, or wait on the train.  The area is open 24/7 for general public use. Please keep it clean and smoke free so everyone can enjoy it.

The Kannapolis Police Department recently presented Kailagh Payne with a letter of commendation for her bravery. Kailagh, who is 8, was home alone with her mother, when her mother suffered a medical emergency. Kailagh was able to understand that her mother was very sick and quickly dialed 911. She was able to tell our telecommunicators what was happening to her mother and give her address and directions to their home. The Kannapolis Fire Department is offering non-certified CPR classes from March - November. Classes are two hours and free to the public. Classes will be held: 3:30-5:30 p.m. on Saturdays – March 16, April 27, May 25, June 29, August 17, September 21, October 26, and November 9. (You only need to attend one of the two-hour classes).
