Recycling

The City provides recycling collection every other week. To find out your recycling pick-up day, click here and enter your address.

Recycling collection will occur on ALL holidays EXCEPT Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. For those two holidays, collection will occur on a one-day delay for the remainder of the week. 

In the event of a missed pickup (not due to a holiday or posted delay), please call the Public Works Department at (704) 920-4200 within 24-hours.

Electronics Recycling Drop-Off Site

The City of Kannapolis does not collect televisions and other electronics from the curb. Please DO NOT place televisions or other electronic items in your garbage or recycling containers, at the curb or in nearby ditches.

Public Works accepts televisions, microwaves, computer equipment and other electronics to be dropped off for recycling. 

Electronics can by dropped off at 1401 Bethpage Road. 
Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. and on Fridays by appointment only.

Please call 704-920-4200 to schedule an appointment on Fridays to drop-off oversized/bulky electronics.

Recycling Reminders

  • Recycling should be placed in your 96-gallon rollout carts with the YELLOW lid.

  • Put your recycling rollout container at the curb before 7 a.m. on your collection day and remove empty rollout containers no later than 7 a.m. the day after collection day. 

What CAN be recycled?

Please recycle the following Items:

  • Empty aerosol cans

  • Aluminum cans

  • Flattened cardboard, cereal and food boxes, glass

  • Pringles cans

  • Milk and juice cartons

  • Mixed paper, newspapers, magazines and shredded paper

  • Plastics 1-7

  • Spiral paper cans

  • Steel/tin cans

  • Rigid plastic containers and small, hard plastic toys

  • Juice boxes

What CAN NOT be recycled?

  • Electronics (the City offers a drop-off site for electronics recycling at 1401 Bethpage Road)

  • Aluminum foil, cling wrap or shrink wrap

  • Batteries

  • Ceramics

  • Clothing

  • Garbage

  • Light Bulbs

  • Paper plates, plastic utensils and napkins

  • Dirty pizza boxes

  • Plastic grocery bags

  • Plastic food trays or cups

  • Pots and pans

  • Styrofoam

  • Wire hangers
