The City of Kannapolis has been selected as a presenter at the prestigious National League of Cities Summit in Los Angeles, California this week. Kannapolis was chosen as one of four cities to present at the “Big Ideas for Small Cities” session. The National League of Cities is an organization of more than 19,000 cities from across the United States which serves as a resource and advocate for municipalities.

Kannapolis Mayor Darrell Hinnant was asked to speak, on behalf of the City, regarding Kannapolis’ “Big Idea” of purchasing the entire downtown and how the City has developed a visionary master plan which focuses on a three-phase approach of investing in catalyst projects: infrastructure/streetscape, a sports and entertainment venue and the mixed-use development, VIDA. All projects which are designed to bring an influx of private investment and people to downtown Kannapolis over the next decade. The plan has already resulted in commitments from private investors totaling more than $64 million.

At the National League of Cities Summit Mayor Hinnant and other city officials will share the plan and successes already achieved by the City of Kannapolis. They will also participate in sessions with city leaders from across the nation to learn about other innovations and solutions to challenges facing America’s cities.
