All movies and concerts are free to the public and will be held in downtown Kannapolis. Movies and concerts are held at Village Park and Veterans Park.

This week’s events are:

August - December 15 First Knight Virtual 5K – Register at runkannapolis.com
The virtual run allows you to walk/run wherever and whenever you like (i.e. your neighborhood or around the Loop). Once you register, we will mail your medal to you.

August 7 National Night Out (5 – 8 p.m.) – Veterans Park
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes a true sense of community and provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances. We will celebrate with food, children's games, free school supplies, and much more. Our police and fire department staff and other community partners look forward to having this opportunity to meet and interact with everyone.

August 8 Children’s Theatre: Chicken Little (10 a.m.) – Veterans Park
This twist on the classic fable of Chicken Little encourages students to think critically about the information they see. When something from the sky falls and causes uproar on the farm, watch as our friends Chicken Little, Goosey Loosey and Turkey Lurkey search for clues to decide whether the sky is really falling, or if it is just a trick!

August 9 Thursdays on Main – Evening (6 – 9 p.m.) – Band of Oz
Since 1967, when The Band of Oz was formed, the band has made an exceptional name for itself throughout the Southeast by playing the top clubs and corporate parties, and getting excellent reviews along the way. For several years the group has been a guest on most of the major beach concerts in the Carolinas, Virginia, and Georgia. The band now features a full horn section to total a dynamic eight-member group.

August 11 Cruise-In (1 – 9 p.m.) – Downtown Kannapolis

August 11 Concerts in the Park: The Commodores (7 p.m.) – Village Park

Fireworks will follow the concert.

For three decades, the Commodores have remained a force in the music industry. The Commodores aren’t just any group. They have staying power. Just like their hit song "Brick House," the Commodores have created a foundation that just won’t budge. After churning out hit after hit in the Motown days, the Commodores still hadn’t achieved Grammy recognition. This wasn’t to be until 1986, without Lionel Richie, when the Commodores released “Nightshift”.

The successful Commodores of the present have not only produced six new albums and embarked upon a world-wide tour, but have created their own record label, Commodores Records & Entertainment. Today the Commodores stand not only as talented and successful musicians, but as artists determined to continue their success into the future.

Shuttles will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will run from City Hall, Cabarrus Health Alliance, and the overflow lot behind Nova Credit Union.

Free Admission. Children 18 & under must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. No pets or smoking please. You can download the summer’s entire schedule at www.kannapolisnc.gov or find it on Facebook and Twitter.
