The Kannapolis Intimidators, Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, are preparing to host the team’s first playoff game in nearly a decade as the South Atlantic League playoffs begin in September. The Intimidators, who reached the playoffs by winning the Northern Division First Half Championship, will host Game 2 on Friday, Sept. 8, and if necessary Game 3 on Saturday, Sept. 9, in the Best-of-3 Northern Division Series. The Intimidators will open the post-season on the road on Wednesday, Sept. 6, at the site of the Second Half champion, which will be determined over the final week of the regular season. The team then returns to Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System for its first home playoff game since 2009. Should the Intimidators advance, they will host Games 1 and 2 of the Best-of-5 South Atlantic League championship series on Monday, Sept. 11, and Tuesday, Sept. 12. Games 3 and if necessary 4 and 5 of the championship series would be hosted by the Southern Division representative.
As part of the post-season festivities, the Intimidators are hosting a Fall Craft Beer Sampling on Friday, Sept. 8, featuring nearly a dozen new fall brews from local distributors. Tickets for the playoff game and craft beer sampling are only $15 in advance, or fans can add the craft beer sampling at the ballpark to their ticket for only $10.
Fans with any unused rain exchange tickets or undated vouchers are able to redeem their tickets for any Intimidators home playoff game during the 2017 post-season. Exchanges can be made at the F&M Bank Box Office or reserved in advance by calling (704) 932-3267.
As the Chicago White Sox restocked their farm system, the Intimidators roster continued to add talent around the diamond. The squad currently features the organization’s top three draft picks from the June 2017 First-Year Player Draft in third baseman Jake Burger (first round), first baseman Gavin Sheets (second round), and outfielder Luis Gonzalez (third round) as well as a former Yankees first round selection outfielder Blake Rutherford.
This is the fifth post-season appearance for Kannapolis since the team came to town in 1995 and the third playoff appearance in the Intimidators era (since 2001). The Intimidators won their only South Atlantic League Championship in 2005.
