North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey and Deputy Insurance Commissioner Vance Braxton will come to Kannapolis to personally inform Cabarrus residents of healthcare savings opportunities through Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP). The Town Hall and Medicare 101 class will take place Monday, August 28, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Kannapolis Train Station (201 S. Main Street). The event is free and open to the public.

In 2016, the SHIIP program saved North Carolina Medicare beneficiaries more than $44 million. The town hall and informational session gives residents an opportunity to learn about the cost-savings program before the Medicare Open Enrollment period, October 15-December 7.

The program features a presentation by Causey on Medicare updates at 10 a.m., followed by a complimentary lunch at 11:30 a.m. The event will conclude with a Medicare 101 class from noon-2 p.m. The Kannapolis Train Station has ample parking and the event space is easily accessible. Residents may choose to attend the entire events or select presentations. Organizers encourage participants to register here or by calling 704-920-1400, option 7, then option 2.

“Medicare can be complicated and we help consumer understand the differences,” said Braxton. “We want to meet with Cabarrus to hear about issues they may have with insurance, especially Medicare. We also want to share information that might help them make informed decisions about their healthcare—decisions that may save them money.”
