The Kannapolis Fire Department welcomes four new firefighters to their team. All four firefighters were previously part of the department’s part time Reserve Program. The recruits spent six weeks in classes to improve the skills they already possessed as well as to learn new ones as they transition from part-time status to full-time employees.

The four new firefighters are Jake Chambers, Todd Mitchell, Tyler O’Brien and Colby Taylor. All four have achieved their N.C. Firefighter II/EMT Basic certifications. Taylor is new to fire service while O’Brien is a second generation firefighter who was a member of the Kannapolis Fire Explorer program from the age of 14. He also volunteers with the Rimer Volunteer Fire Department.

Chambers previously worked for the Granite Quarry Fire Department and is still a volunteer there. He also teaches fire classes at Rowan Cabarrus Community College. Todd Mitchell previously served with the Salisbury Fire Department and is a volunteer with Odell Volunteer Fire Department.
