The Kannapolis Police Department and the Kannapolis Fire Department will each offer citizens’ academies in the New Year. Held separately, each academy concentrates on the services and functions of the Kannapolis Police and Fire Departments and provides citizens with a better understanding of what it takes to be a firefighter or police officer.

Citizens participating in the free ten-week fire academy will tour fire stations, learn the history of fire service, fire prevention, education and investigation, emergency driving, rescue operations and more.

The police academy attendees will participate in classes on all aspects of the department such as patrol operations, traffic enforcement, defensive driving, firearms, K-9 operations, special operations (SWAT), felony investigations, interaction with the courts, community service programs, etc.

Classes are taught by Kannapolis firefighters and police officers in a fun and relaxed environment which allows residents to foster relationships with the staff.

The Fire Academy will begin February 12 and the Police Academy will begin February 14. Applications are due January 10. Visit the links below:
