Winter Weather Update – 4 p.m. – December 9, 2018

We remain under a Winter Storm Warning - The latest forecast calls for more freezing rain/sleet/snow later tonight and into Monday morning.

Streets: Public Works Crews continue to plow and salt primary streets in the City. Many of these primary streets are passable at this time. Secondary streets are still unsafe. We expect road conditions to deteriorate tonight and Monday morning as temperatures drop and more precipitation falls causing everything that has melted, to refreeze as black ice, which is very dangerous.

Transit: Rider Transit will be closed tomorrow.

Garbage/Recycling/Yard Waste: There will be no garbage/recycling/yard waste collection tomorrow. Collection will be on a one day delay.

Electricity: Duke Energy is reporting 2,300 households in Cabarrus County without power as ice builds up on trees and powerlines. If you have a power outage – call Duke Energy at 1-800.POWERON. Please do not call 911.

Safety: Please do not use grills or other outdoor appliances or equipment indoors for space heating or cooking, as these devices may cause a deadly buildup of carbon monoxide (CO).

Thank you all for staying off the roads today. We have only had a few minor accidents. Please continue to stay off the streets. We want you and your family to be safe. Enjoy your evening!
