The public is invited to provide input on a project under development to replace the bridge on East 1st Street over U.S. 29 with an at-grade intersection. A signalized intersection is being proposed rather than replacing the existing bridge as it provides the same level of service to drivers, at a lower cost for construction and maintenance.

More information and a map of the proposed improvement can be found on the NCDOT public meeting website.

A public meeting will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15, at Faith Baptist Church, 900 Chitola Street in Kannapolis. Area residents may attend the meeting at any time, as no formal presentation will be made. They will be able to review the initial plans, submit comments and ask questions of staff working on the project.

For those who cannot attend the meeting, there is still an opportunity to submit comments and ask questions in writing, by phone or email through Dec. 17. All comments received will be reviewed and considered for the final design. The
