Programs & Events

The Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of recreational programs and events throughout the year, including trips and athletic leagues.

REGISTRATION FOR PROGRAMS

NOTE: Most programs require a completed program registration form.  While many are free, some do have a participation fee. You may register in person, by phone or by mail.To register by mail, send your completed program form and any payment required to: Kannapolis Parks and Recreation, 401 Laureate Way, Kannapolis, NC 28081. Please make checks payable to “City of Kannapolis.”

Youth & Family Programs

DADDY/DAUGHTER DANCE - A NIGHT TO REMEMBER (REGISTER ON-LINE HERE)

Join us on Saturday, February 9th at the Laureate Center for a Night to Remember - A night of dancing and fun.   
Time: 6:00 – 8:00 PM  
Tickets: $40.00 per couple;$15.00 each additional girl.  
Cost includes refreshments, crafts, activities, dancing and entertainment and a free 5x7 photo keepsake.   

This program is designed for girls ages 5 & up to be accompanied by her dad, step-dad, grandpa, big brother, uncle or other special guy.   Dressy (suit/slacks/jacket/tie) to casual (khaki's/polo) attire. Enjoy and be comfortable yet classy and you will have a fabulous time!   

Please register EACH dad/daughter attending so we have an accurate RSVP.

SELF DEFENSE & CHEERLEADING FOR YOUTH

 

 Self Defense Cheerleading

Self defense and cheerleading classes are held at G.W. Carver Elementary School 
(formerly Kannapolis Intermediate School), 525 East C. Street Kannapolis. 

Class times vary based on skill level/experience.
$10 registration fee
$8 per week - paid weekly (no contracts)

Girls Who Code

Girls will learn all concepts & basics of programming. Whether they want to learn how to build a website, an app, or a robot.
Girls with prior programming or coding knowledge can deepen their learning through new experiences and extended activity sets. 

There's something for every girl to learn through team building, problem solving, and more! Everyone gets the opportunity to build an impact project that helps solve real world problems.

Come test out your dodging and throwing skills as we play different variations of the classic game of dodgeball.

Builders Workshop

Join us at Village Park in Shelter A each Saturday, March 23rd - April 13th
 at 10:00 AM to build a Wooden Model kit, paint it, and take home a finished product!

Family Dodgeball Ice Cream Social (REGISTER)

Saturday, April 27th 1-3 PM

Forest Park Elementary School Gym 

Join us for a fun filled afternoon of dodgeball and ice cream with the whole family.
We will play different variations of the classic game of dodgeball, but with an exciting twist as mom and dad get to join in on the fun.
Victory is sweet! After dodgeball, we will have a fully stocked ice cream sundae bar to cool down with as you make new memories with family & friends.

$2/Person - Ages 5+ (Ages 4 & under not participating in dodgeball are free with adult admission & welcome to enjoy ice cream)


 

 

ADULT PROGRAMS & DAY TRIPS

  OPEN GYM- Free Program, no registration required.

Open Gym is designed to provide an opportunity for both youth and adults to use a school gymnasium in a supervised, free play situation. Open Gym is FREE of charge.

The City of Kannapolis and Zumba want YOU! Let's get healthy and moving together! Enter the world of international rhythms. You'll enjoy an hour of fun with music, basic rhythms and steps like the salsa, merengue, cumbia, reggaeton, and many more.

Line Dancing

Join us for Line Dancing on Thursday Nights at Village Park starting January 10th! 

Come to learn or refresh the classics, or to explore a new modern twist. 
Everyone is guaranteed to have a great time as we socialize, have fun, and dance!

The Parks and Recreation Department occasionally offers trip opportunities for adults.

 Trips are for adults 18 and older unless otherwise noted. Trips sometimes have potential to last longer and/or end earlier than expected. Bridge Interest Meeting

Come learn what bridge is all about at this FREE introductory organizational meeting conducted by a teacher accredited by the ACBL.
Based on interest, paid groups and/or lesson will be established at a later time.

Charlotte Ballet Rehearsal & Tour (REGISTER)

Wednesday, February 6th 

We will travel to Charlotte for a chance to see the cast as they rehearse for an upcoming show.
We will also have the opportunity to tour the facilities and costume shop, and enjoy a meet and greet with the ballet's wardrobe designer. 
After our time is up at the ballet, we will have a late lunch before returning to Kannapolis.

Game Day: Trivia (REGISTER)

Thursday, February 7th 1:00 pm 

Come out to Village Park for an afternoon full of a little bit of competition and a lot of fun! 
We will play several rounds of trivia, and the winner will take home an exclusive prize.

High Point Theater: Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (REGISTER)

Thursday, February 21st

We will first stop for dinner before visiting the theater for the show. 
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is a musical adaptation of the 1988 comedy film about two con men 
who attempt to scheme money out of rich women, in two unique ways. 
After the two con men meet, they attempt to work together.
They quickly find out that the town isn't big enough for the two of them.

Leave Village Park: 4pm, Return 10:30pm

NC State Capitol & Executive Mansion (REGISTER) 

Thursday, March 14th 

We will head to Raleigh and first stop for lunch before visiting the NC State Capitol Building for an informational guided tour.
Before heading home, we will make a stop at the NC Executive Mansion, the official residence of the Governor of NC, built in 1883.

Registration and fees due: March 1st
Cost: $15/Person Kannapolis Resident

Leave Village Park: 8:30am, return 6pm
