Programs & Events

The Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of recreational programs and events throughout the year, including trips and athletic leagues.


NOTE: Most programs require a completed program registration form.  While many are free, some do have a participation fee. You may register in person, by phone or by mail.To register by mail, send your completed program form and any payment required to: Kannapolis Parks and Recreation, 401 Laureate Way, Kannapolis, NC 28081. Please make checks payable to “City of Kannapolis.”

Youth & Family Programs


All painting & craft classes are $30. Please sign up using the link for each individual class to reserve your seat.

Self defense and cheerleading classes are held at G.W. Carver Elementary School 
(formerly Kannapolis Intermediate School), 525 East C. Street Kannapolis. 

Class times vary based on skill level/experience.
$10 registration fee
$8 per week - paid weekly (no contracts)

Girls Who Code

Girls will learn all concepts & basics of programming. Whether they want to learn how to build a website, an app, or a robot.
Girls with prior programming or coding knowledge can deepen their learning through new experiences and extended activity sets. 

There's something for every girl to learn through team building, problem solving, and more! Everyone gets the opportunity to build an impact project that helps solve real world problems.

Family Dodgeball Ice Cream Social (REGISTER)

Join us for a fun filled afternoon of dodgeball and ice cream with the whole family.

We will play different variations of the classic game of dodgeball, but with an exciting twist as mom and dad get to join in on the fun.

Victory is sweet! After dodgeball, we will have a fully stocked ice cream sundae bar to cool down with as you make new memories with family & friends.

$2/Person - Ages 5+ (Ages 4 & under not participating in dodgeball are free with adult admission & welcome to enjoy ice cream)

This summer RCCC and the City of Kannapolis is offering summer camp opportunities that allow you to fly DRONES, create FORTNITE video games, explore VIRTUAL REALITY and more!

Capture the Flag

Outdoor games don’t have to stop when the sun goes down. Play Capture the Flag Redux and keep the fun going well after the streetlights turn on.
Your mission: Capture the Flag
  Your challenge: Sneak into enemy territory, capture their flag and get it back home
  Be careful: Don’t get caught or you’ll find yourself in jail!

The Summer Circuit is a fun, recreation program that will get kids outdoors, active and having fun. Join Kannapolis Parks & Recreation this summer and try out a variety of recreation opportunities. Activities include: 4 square, Nitroball, Human Foosball, Dodgeball, Kickball, 9 Square and more!

Tinkergarten (REGISTER) 

Tinkergarten allows children to learn through play. Each class focuses on outdoor, play-based activities that teach children about nature and will allow kids to build a connection to the natural world. 

Classes will be offered at Bakers Creek Park in Shelter 4.

10 Week Paid Sessions will be offered as follows:
(Babies 6-18 months) - Thursdays,  April 11-June 13 - 11am-12pm
(18 months - 8 Years) - Sundays,  April 14-June 16 - 10am-11:15am
(18 months - 5 Years) - Mondays, April 15 - June 17 - 10am-11:15am
(18 months - 5 Years) - Fridays, April 19-June 21 -  9:45am-11:00am

A parent or guardian will need to stay for each class.
Sibling discounts and payment plans are available. 


Couch to 5K (Register)

Start 2019 off on the right foot! The Kannapolis Parks & Recreation Couch to 5K program is a 9 week training program for those who would like to transform their lifestyle and complete a 5K!

Open Gym is designed to provide an opportunity for both youth and adults to use a school gymnasium in a supervised, free play situation. Open Gym is FREE of charge.

The City of Kannapolis and Zumba want YOU! Let's get healthy and moving together! Enter the world of international rhythms. You'll enjoy an hour of fun with music, basic rhythms and steps like the salsa, merengue, cumbia, reggaeton, and many more.

The sole purpose of our softball league is to provide an organized athletic event that promotes fun, fellowship, competition, and good sportsmanship. Registration is now OPEN!

NC State Capitol & Executive Mansion (REGISTER) 

Thursday, March 14th 

We will head to Raleigh and first stop for lunch before visiting the NC State Capitol Building for an informational guided tour.
Before heading home, we will make a stop at the NC Executive Mansion, the official residence of the Governor of NC, built in 1883.

Registration and fees due: March 1st

Paul J. Ciener Botanical Garden & Carolina Field of Honor (REGISTER)

Wednesday, April 17th

Paul J. Ciener Botanical Garden's will be at their peak season for a wide variety of bulbs in their pattern and hourglass gardens when we visit in Mid-April.
We will embark on a 1 hour guided tour before having free time to explore the garden and visit the gift shop.

After stopping for lunch at a local favorite, Mae's Kitchen, we will then visit nearby Triad Park to see the Carolina Field of Honor, a tribute to local veterans in the area.

Bob Timberlake Gallery & Richard Childress Vineyards (REGISTER)

Wednesday, May 1st

We will travel to Lexington to visit and explore the Bob Timberlake Gallery that showcases original artwork, personal memorabilia, and the popular home furnishings collection that made Bob famous.
After a stop for lunch, we will head to Childress Vineyards for a private tour of the vineyard and a personal wine tasting. At this stop on our trip, everyone will take home their own souvenir wine glass!

Got to be NC Festival (REGISTER)

Friday, May 17th

We will first stop for lunch on the way before heading to the festival for the day.
The Got to be NC Festival is a great way to celebrate everything NC, down-home, country style!
There is a full day of fun scheduled that has something for everyone to enjoy.

Lake Lure Boat Tour (REGISTER)

Wednesday, June 5th

We will head to Lake Lure and first stop for lunch along the way. 
After lunch we will journey to the land of "Dirty Dancing" for a guided boat tour around beautiful & historical Lake Lure.
After our boat tour, we will have free time to explore the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge, Morse Park, & the Lake Lure Welcome Center.

Registration and feeds due: May 21st
