Programs & Events

The Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of recreational programs and events throughout the year, including trips and athletic leagues.

REGISTRATION FOR PROGRAMS

NOTE: Most programs require a completed program registration form.  While many are free, some do have a participation fee. DROP & SHOP (REGISTER)

Are you behind on your shopping, wrapping or cleaning for the holidays? Drop off the kids for a holiday-themed parents' night out that will consist of gingerbread houses, crafts and games.

Location: Forest Park Elementary

CHURCH SOFTBALL LEAGUE

Registration for the Fall softball season is now closed. The season will begin the week of September 4th and rosters are due at game time the first night. For more information please contact Kannapolis Parks & Recreation at 704-920-4343.

ZUMBA LATINA

The City of Kannapolis and Zumba want YOU! Let's get healthy and moving together! Enter the world of international rhythms. You'll enjoy an hour of fun with music, basic rhythms and steps like the salsa, merengue, cumbia, reggaeton, and many more. 

Location: Kannapolis Train Station (201 South Main Street)
Time: Wednesdays 6:00-7:00 PM
Fridays 10:00-11:00 AM
Cost: FREE

YOUTH PAINTING CLASSES

REGISTER

Our art classes help kids explore their artistic abilities, with a great balance of trying different art techniques, discovering, making friends and learning new skills. An instructor will guide them step by step from a blank canvas to their finished masterpiece. We supply all the materials and inspiration. All the kids have to do is come ready to paint and have a great time.

Ages 6-15 Cost: $25/Person 

Discounts are offered for signing up for more than one painting!

YOUTH YOGA

 Yoga for youth - Flexibility, concentration, and creativity are all a part of this hour-long program. 

Bring your mat and bottle of water and get ready for fun!

Cost is $3.00 per child per class - paid at the time of class to the instructor.

No advance registration is needed!

Yoga is held at the Kannapolis Train Station located at 201 South Main Street.

Children ages 3-5   Children ages 6-10 
Monday mornings 10:00 am  Thursday mornings 10:00 am

Please note the following dates that there will be NO youth yoga classes:

Thursday November 23rd, Monday November 27th, Thursday November 30th, Monday December 25th, and Monday January 1st. 

 

SELF DEFENSE & CHEERLEADING FOR YOUTH

Self defense and cheerleading holds classes at G.W. Carver Elementary School 
(formerly Kannapolis Intermediate School) located at 
525 East C. Street Kannapolis 

Class times vary based on skill level/experience.
$10 registration fee
$8 per week - paid weekly (no contracts)

ADULT DAY TRIPS

The Parks and Recreation Department occasionally offers trip opportunities for adults. Trips are for adults 18 and older unless otherwise noted. Trips sometimes have potential to last longer and/or end earlier than expected. Many trips may have a lot of walking so please wear comfortable shoes. Julia's Talley House Restaurant and Daveste Vineyard - Troutman, NC

(REGISTER)

The Talley House Restaurant is a local favorite in Troutman, NC. The restaurant has been featured in Our State magazine. Known for their fried chicken, family and cafeteria style eating. We will enjoy lunch at the restaurant before heading to the Daveste Vineyard. The Daveste Vineyard was the first winery in Iredell County. We will take a tour of the vineyard and winery, complete with a wine tasting and souvenir glass. Additional wine and souvenirs can be purchased at the shop.

Barn Dinner Theatre - Greensboro, NC

(REGISTER)

The Barn Dinner Theatre was opened in the early 60's and has been entertaining guests for over 50 years! We will enjoy a buffet style lunch and then a fun and lively "Groovin' Christmas" musical that celebrates Disco, Pop, and Soul from the 60's and the 70's!

Korner's Folly House and Tanglewood Festival of Lights - Clemmons & Kernersville, NC

(REGISTER)

Korner's Folly is the architectural wonder and home of artist and designer Jule Gilmer Korner. The house that was built in 1880 will be adorned with holiday decorations as we tour this lovely, enchanting holiday destination. After touring Korner's Folly, we will have dinner at Village Tavern before venturing to Tanglewood Festival of Lights. The Festival of Lights will turn Tanglewood Park into a winter wonderland complete with visits from Mr. and Mrs. Claus, a gift shop, and Smoresville.

Mrs. Hane's Moravian Cookie Factory & Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts - Winston Salem, NC

(REGISTER)

Mrs. Hane's Moravian Cookie Factory has been making and selling their famous cookies for seven generations! During our tour of the cookie factory we will get to see every step of the cookie making process, along with samples of the six different flavors of cookies. After our tour of the cookie factory, we will stop for lunch in Winston Salem before heading to the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts (MESDA). MESDA has been open since the 1960's and is housed in a remodeled Kroger supermarket. MESDA houses two different collections that together tell the story of the south through the objects that were made and used by a diverse variety of craftsmen. We will embark on an hour behind the scenes tour of the museums study galleries. We will also have time to view other portions of the museum on a self guided tour.
