Programs & Events

The Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of recreational programs and events throughout the year, including trips and athletic leagues.

Below are a few points about our concerts and events.

  • All the concerts/ movies in the park are free of charge. There is no ticket price or charge for admission. 
  • Blankets, lawn chairs and pinics/ coolers are permitted and concessions will be available.
  • Please NO pets, tobacco, grilling, glass bottles or outside alcohol brought in. Coolers will be checked at several entry points. Village Park is a tobacco free facility. The beer and wine tent will be open during concerts for alcohol sales, ID is required.
  • Children under the age of 18 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  • Parking for all events will be available at the outer parking lots along Dale Earnhardt Blvd. and down West C Street (overflow near the YMCA/ Library). During concerts, the Village Park parking lot will be reserved for handicap parking only (valid handicap placard or license plate required.)



NOTE: Most programs require a completed program registration form.  While many are free, some do have a participation fee. How to Register:  You may register in person, by phone or by mail.

This activity is specifically designed for intermediate and advanced photographers - both hobbyists and professionals. These meet-ups are designed for photographers to share and gain knowledge with other photographers in the area.

Kannapolis Arts Photographers (KAP) is a division of Kannapolis Arts (KArts). Dedicated to connecting photographers of all levels in and around the Kannapolis area. Dedicated to helping each other grow as photographers and businesses; by sharing our experience and knowledge and most importantly our time.  KAP members will be the first to know about potential exhibits, contests or other opportunities sponsored or associated with KArts.  KAP members will be the first people that KArts contacts with a "Call for photographers" for events, etc

Beginning Belly Dancing (Register)

Participants will learn about proper posture, foundation movements, a simple choreography, and belly dance history and culture.

In addition, participants will gain increased self-esteem, a more positive body image, and an appreciation of the strength, flexibility, and beauty of their body and its movements.

This class is being taught by Wendy Konzelmann in partnership with Kannapolis Arts/DKI with the City of Kannapolis Parks and Recreation Department.

Classes will be held on Thursday evenings at the Kannapolis Train Station every Thursday for four weeks.

Our art classes help kids explore their artistic abilities, with a great balance of trying different art techniques, discovering, making friends and learning new skills. An instructor will guide them step by step from a blank canvas to their finished masterpiece. We supply all the materials and inspiration. All the kids have to do is come ready to paint and have a great time.

Building model kits is a hobby kids of all ages can enjoy. It is fun, creative and constructive! In this program kids will assemble a wooden model kit, paint it and take home a finished product. All materials will be supplied.

WRITING WORKSHOPS - Fan Fiction For Fun & Profit Workshop - Taking your writing to the next level

Join us for a series of three classes that focus on taking your fan fiction to the next level.

Ever wanted to learn to sew?  Come join this beginners sewing class.  All materials will be provided. If you have you own machine, please bring it - only a few machines will be provided.  This class will be taught by Wanda Gordon as a part of the Kannapolis Arts Program.

By definition, mosaics are a picture or pattern produced by arranging together small colored pieces of hard material, such as stone, tile, or glass; but they are also a work of art. This class will provide instruction and direction to enable participants to complete beautiful mosaics from a variety of materials. All materials and supplies will be provided.


This class is taught by Karen Earnhardt and held at the Kannapolis Train Station. This class is held in conjunction with Kannapolis Arts/DKI and the City of Kannapolis Parks and Recreation Department.

USING YOUR UNIQUE - DIY Artist Branding Workshop (Register)

The 'Using Your Unique- DIY Artist Branding' program is a 4-week course for artists of all mediums on marketing and branding. Participants will learn to execute a brand and image that best represents their craft.

Scrapbooking Basics (Register)

This class will provide instruction and direction to enable participants to complete a scrapbook on any subject of their choosing. Examples: weddings, new baby, birthday parties, vacation, graduation, family reunion, summer camps, etc.

This class is taught by Kay Patty and held at the Kannapolis Train Station. This class is held in conjunction with Kannapolis Arts/DKI and the City of Kannapolis Parks and Recreation Department.

ESCAPE ROOM (Register)

The Parks and Recreation Department occasionally offers trip opportunities for adults. Trips are for adults 18 and older unless otherwise noted. Trips sometimes have potential to last longer and/or end earlier than expected. Many trips may have a lot of walking so please wear comfortable shoes. Reed Gold Mine is the site of the first documented gold found in the United States. From this discovery, gold mining spread gradually to nearby counties and eventually into other southern states. Join us for a guided tour of Reed Gold Mine and learn about gold mining from the very beginning.

Before visiting the planetarium & science center we will have lunch and spend time in downtown Chapel Hill. Morehead Planetarium is one of the largest planetariums in the United States. It is complete with a 68 foot domed star theatre and teaches visitors about the night sky, lunar landings and black holes!

The NC Arboretum is featuring the Winged Wonders exhibit. See the miracle of metamorphosis before your very eyes. WInged Wonders is an indoor butterfly exhibit featuring a chrysalis rearing chamber and a walk through butterfly house where visitors can meet a whole host of local butterfly species. The tour will also include a program about the greenhouse.

Historic Latta Plantation is a circa 1800 cotton plantation and living history farm. The 62 acre farm of James Latta consists of the original home and smokehouse, outbuildings, as well as fields, farm animals, gardens and interpreters in period clothing.
