Kannapolis Police Officer Ruth Stewart has retired from the department after serving the residents of the City for 30 years. Stewart served as a patrol officer, DARE officer, Evidence Custodian and Training Coordinator.
Kannapolis Chief of Police Woody Chavis commented, “Ruth has been a very valuable employee over the years and has worn may hats for our agency. Her professionalism is unmatched, and her integrity is unrivaled. We will truly miss her, her hard work, and her smiling face! We wish Ruth the best in her retirement”.
A native of Columbus, Ohio, Ruth moved to the area and decided she wanted a career in law enforcement. She attended the Charlotte Police Academy where she completed her basic law enforcement training (B.L.E.T.). Over the last 20 years she has taken on the role of teaching B.L.E.T. including the physical fitness component at Rowan Cabarrus Community College.
During her tenure with the Kannapolis Police Department she developed a system to ensure officers are receiving their mandated training and certifications as well as the physical fitness program.
When asked what she liked best about her job throughout her career, Ruth said, “I felt honored that the Chief and department trusted me to do the job, especially when I was the evidence custodian. It is an important responsibility and I always wanted to do my best.”
Ruth plans to enjoy retirement by spending time with family, running and traveling.
