It is another great year to Discover Fun in Kannapolis. The City has announced its lineup of concerts, movies, special events, Intimidators Baseball and of course - fireworks for 2018. All movies and concerts are free to the public and will be held in downtown Kannapolis. Movies and concerts are held at Village Park and Veterans Park.

This week’s events are:

July- December 15: First Knight Virtual 5K – Register at runkannapolis.com
The virtual run allows you to walk/run wherever and whenever you like (i.e. your neighborhood or around the Loop). Once you register, we will mail your medal to you.

July 9: Kannapolis Intimidators Home Game (7:05 p.m.) – Lakewood Blueclaws

July 14 – 17: Kannapolis Intimidators Home Games (7:05 p.m.) – Hagerstown Suns

July 12: Thursdays on Main – Evening (6 – 9 p.m.) – The Embers, Veterans Park
The Embers are widely considered a musical marvel and have laid the groundwork for what has become known as ‘Beach Music’ in the Carolinas, Virginias, the gulf coast region and every beach in between. They are a true musical tradition and many Americans have listened to them from childhood to adulthood. The Embers consider the genre of Beach Music as “music with a memory” and have been creating lasting memories since its inception in 1958. Simply put – Heart and Soul, Rhythm and Blues, Feel Good Music.

Food will be available for purchase.

July 12: Farmer’s Market (4 -7 p.m.) – corner of Dale Earnhardt Blvd. and Vance Ave.

July 14: Cruise-In (1 – 9 p.m.) – Downtown Kannapolis

July 14: Concerts in the Park (7 p.m.) – Starship, Village Park

In 1985, Starship released the album that would come to define the eighties, Knee Deep in the Hoopla. Featuring two #1 hits, including “We Built this City” and “Sara.” Starship followed-up their initial success with another #1 single, “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now.”

Starship music is featured in the soundtracks for “Rock of Ages,” “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Skeleton Twins,” and most recently on the popular TV series “Glee”.


Michael Tracy is the opening act
Michael Tracy combines straightforward American Rock and Roll with poignant lyrical themes, reminiscent of Rock Singer/Songwriter idols like Tom Petty, Bob Seger, John Mellencamp, and Bruce Springsteen. He has released four studio albums, and together with his band has shared the stage with Bon Jovi (garnering him a featured article in Billboard Magazine), Poison, George Thorogood, Styx, Foreigner, Don Felder, Jefferson Starship, Dokken, and Zach Myers (Shinedown).

Please NO pets, tobacco, grilling, glass bottles or outside alcohol brought in. Coolers will be checked at several entry points. The Beer and Wine tent will be open during concerts for alcohol sales, ID is required.

Parking for all events is available at City Hall, Cabarrus Health Alliance, and the overflow lot behind the NOVA Credit Union. The Village Park parking lot is reserved for handicap parking only (valid handicap placard or license plate required).

Free Admission. Children 18 & under must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. No pets or smoking please.
