Cops Target Kids Last week, Kannapolis Police officers held their annual Cops Target Kids event. Over 50 children from our community, aged preschool to high school  were treated to a day of shopping with police officers, a ride in a patrol car, and lunch with Santa.

“This event has a tremendous impact on our officers and staff as well as the children.  People in the community help us raise funds to cover the costs and everyone in the department, including our families, join us to make Christmas better for children in our community who otherwise would not have gifts under the tree”, said Kannapolis Police Chief Terry Spry. "We are able to see first hand how just this one day makes a difference in the life of a child."

For the past 12 years, with the help of generous sponsors and business in the community, police officers and their families have been able to adopt a child for the day. The children shop at Target and Rack Room Shoes for new clothes, shoes, and of course, toys. Additional sponsors this year include the Gene Haas Foundation, Food Lion, and members of Irish Creek Golf Course.

“We look forward to this all year.  It is very special to us.  We see these children every day at school and in our community so we know first hand what their needs are” commented Officer Travis Kiser. “We appreciate everyone who helps make this event happen annually.”
