Savvy Awards

The City of Kannapolis has been recognized with four national SAVVY Awards for its engagement of residents, communications, and marketing initiatives by 3CMA. 3CMA, The City-County Communications and Marketing Association, is the nation’s top professional group for government communication and marketing professionals.

The Savvy Awards recognizes outstanding local government achievements in communications, public-sector marketing, and citizen-government relationships. The Savvies salute skilled and effective city, county, agency, or district professionals who have creatively planned and carried out successful innovations in communications and marketing.

Kannapolis received two first place Savvys, and two Silver Circle Awards competing with cities across the nation with populations of 85,000 and under.

The Kannapolis Police Department was honored with the Savvy First Place Award for the Most Creative Activity with Least Dollars Spent Category and a Silver Circle Award in the Resident Participation Category – both for the Children’s Coloring Contest. The Children’s Coloring Contest served as a way for police officers to engage with children and their families. The child who won the contest saw their winning coloring of the Kannapolis Police badge reproduced as a decal that was placed on every police car in the City.

Kannapolis was honored with the Savvy for the Communications Department’s Annual Report. The City also received a Silver Circle Award in the Overall Social Media Strategy category for the “Join Our Team” campaign. The “Join Our Team” was launched to showcase the diverse group of people, specifically females, and positions that are available in the City. The City has a wealth of jobs that people are often unaware of such as water treatment lab analysts, engineers, construction workers and so forth. Utilizing social media to raise awareness for these positions resulted in an increase from 56 females applying for city positions in 2021 to over 200 applying in 2022.

3CMA was founded in 1988 and with approximately 1,400 members, works to connect and further educate government communication and marketing professions across the United States and Canada to effectively showcase the role of local governments in the lives of people.
