It is going to be another great year to Discover Fun in Kannapolis. The City has announced its lineup of concerts, movies, special events, Intimidators Baseball and of course - fireworks for 2017. All events are free to the public and will be held in downtown Kannapolis. Movies and concerts are held at Village Park and Veterans Park and are on various days from April to August.

Award winning groups Little Texas, 38 Special, and Diamond Rio headline an awesome summer of great music in Kannapolis. Each group will play their Grammy nominated and country music award winning hits in the amphitheater at Village Park.

The entertainment series gets off to a great start with a new series of Sunday afternoon Jazz Music concerts in April and May. The Dwayne Jordan Trio, Nicci Canada Quartet, Brad Riley, and the John Gurske Band will bring their wonderful jazz music to Veterans Park for a wonderful way to enjoy Sunday afternoons.

Jiggy with the Piggy Festival is the weekend of May 5-6. The festival features 80 barbeque teams competing in a competition at the North Carolina Research Campus sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society. The festival includes a special Friday night concert headlined by the award winning group Little Texas.

More great music is planned for the event with Gal Friday, Coconut Groove Band, and Joe Lasher, Jr. and Darrell Harwood concerts. (jiggywiththepiggy.com)

The fun continues with the Concert and Movie Series, sponsored by Hilbish Ford, featuring 38 Special on June 3 and Diamond Rio on August 12. The concert series also includes a diverse mix of musical genres such as the ever popular Charlotte Symphony performance June 30; Confederate Railroad, Trial By Fire, and Too Much Sylvia.

Family Movies in the Park are every other Friday night at Village Park and this year include: Finding Dory, Zootopia, Peanuts, SING, Pete’s Dragon, and Moana.

Stories Under the Stars returns this year at the Kannapolis Library. These special children’s events include Steve Langley, Grey Seal Puppets, Doug Berkey, Piedmont Dance Theatre, and Jason Frame.

The Kaleidoscope Cultural Arts Festivals return in August and October. These festivals feature more than 100 local artisans such as painters, jewelry makers, woodcarvers as well as other family friendly activities.

Join us for lunch and dinner for Thursdays on Main with performances by Gary Lowder & Smokin Hot, Jim Quick and Coastline, Black Water Rhythm & Blues Band, and Tim Clark Band.

Other events include the Kannapolis Cruise-In - the second Saturday of the month, the Fire Truck Parade and Open House, Fall Family Festival, Kannapolis Intimidators Baseball Games (kannapolisintimidators.com), Christmas Events and much more.
