The Kannapolis Fire Department has promoted several personnel into new positions. “We are pleased to have highly qualified individuals who continue to further their leadership within Kannapolis Fire Department,” said Fire Chief Ernie Hiers. “It is a privilege to work with these personnel in their new capacities.”

Division Chief of Emergency Services, Rick Barnhardt, has been reassigned to Division Chief of Administrative Services where he will oversee the department’s budget, grant administration, fleet coordination, logistics coordination, as well as, facility maintenance coordination. Division Chief Barnhardt has a combined 29 years of service with the department.

Division Chief of Technical Services, Tracy Winecoff, has been reassigned to Division Chief of Emergency Services where he will coordinate Operations (Suppression, EMS, and Special Operations), Communications/Technology, and will serve as the departmental Emergency Preparedness Coordinator. Division Chief Winecoff has 24 years of fire service experience and 16 years of service with Kannapolis.

Battalion Chief Kirk Beard was promoted to Division Chief of Technical Services where he will coordinate Professional Development and Training, Community Outreach and Public Education, Risk Reduction, and will oversee the department’s Accreditation Program. Division Chief Beard has 25 years of fire service experience; 16 of which are with Kannapolis.

Captain Brad Jordan was promoted to Battalion Chief and assigned to C Shift. Battalion Chief Jordan has 22 years of fire service experience; 11 of which are with the department.

Engineers Kevin Aube and Drew Barkley were promoted to Captain. Captain Aube is assigned to Engine 11 on A shift and has 14 years of fire service experience and 10 years of service with Kannapolis. Captain Barkley is assigned to Engine 11 B shift and has 10 years of fire service experience and 8 years of service with department.

Firefighters Ashley Armstrong and Darrell Spry were promoted to Engineer. Armstrong is assigned to Ladder 14 and has been with the Kannapolis Fire Department for 3 years, while Spry is assigned to Engine 51 and has been with the department for 4 years.
