The Department of Transportation is preparing to replace a bridge on Brantley Road over Lake Fisher in Kannapolis.

Contractor crews cleared the area last week, and installed erosion control devices. Next, heavy equipment will be moved in to prepare for the demolition of the existing bridge structure and to install support piles for the new bridge. The project is scheduled for completion by late August 2017.

While construction is underway, there will be a signed detour for motorists using Brantley Road, China Grove Road, Lane Street and Old Salisbury-Concord Road back to Brantley Road.

The department encourages motorists to pay attention when approaching the work zone, obey the posted speed limit, and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely.
