The Department of Public Works is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for all residents, businesses and visitors of Kannapolis through responsible and sound management, innovation, teamwork, and vision; by providing dependable, high quality, responsive services. 

The Department of Public Works is responsible for maintaining nearly 500 miles of City streets, 400 miles of curb & gutter and over 4,200 street lights. The Department also operates and maintains the City's water treatment plant which produces 3.5 million gallons of drinking water each day. Public Works is comprised of divisions that are responsible for city engineering, garbage, recycling and yard waste collection services, environmental resources, street lighting, transportation, water resources, storm water; and the maintenance of city facilities, storm water infrastructure, and City streets; and construction site inspection.
