The City of Kannapolis has released an animation of the West Avenue streetscape which is the first component of the City’s visionary Downtown Revitalization Project. The animation can be found here. The Kannapolis Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony will be held in Veterans Park on Monday, May 29th. The parade begins at 11:30 a.m. and travels down Main Street in Kannapolis from the North Carolina Research Campus parking deck to Veterans Park. At the conclusion of the parade a ceremony honoring all Post Vietnam Veterans will be held. All City of Kannapolis offices will be closed on Monday, May 29 in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. Offices will reopen on Tuesday, May 30 at 8 a.m. There will be no disruption in garbage and recycling collection service. All Kannapolis parks will be open for regular operating hours from dawn until dusk. The statewide program includes more than 5,000 North Carolina firms, and about 3,000 awards are presented each year. In order to qualify for an award, businesses must have no fatalities and an injury incidence rate at least 50 percent below the average for their industry. The staff at the City of Kannapolis Water Treatment Plant has earned the North Carolina’s Area Wide Optimization Program Award, which means turbidity levels in the City’s water is below federal and state minimums. Turbidity is a measure of cloudiness or haziness in the water caused by particles that can interfere with disinfection. Kannapolis City Manager Mike Legg presented the proposed Fiscal Year 2018 budget to the Kannapolis City Council Monday evening. The proposed FY 2018 budget is $68,125,000 which includes all seven operating funds of the City. The budget includes no property tax increase. This Sunday will mark the City of Kannapolis’ last jazz concert of the year. Join us, from 1-3 p.m., May 21, for the Dwayne Jordan Trio. On Saturday, May 6, children raced zucchinis in the Kids Zone at the Jiggy with the Piggy Festival. Competitors worked diligently and used their imaginations to create the fastest and most nutritious cars with the supplies of vegetables provided to them.
