Monday evening, the Kannapolis City Council approved two agreements with downtown tenants, which will allow the Downtown Revitalization Project to continue to progress on schedule.

C4 Builders of Charlotte was selected as the general contractor for renovations to the College Station Property located at 489 North Cannon Boulevard. The renovations will be completed in order for Rowan Cabarrus Community College to relocate to this location from its downtown Kannapolis site by the Fall 2018 Semester.

RCCC is moving its cosmetology, certified nursing aide, and EMT programs from its current location on West Avenue in order for the construction of the sports and entertainment venue to proceed. The college will continue to make lease payments to the City. The former shopping center space has additional spaces that the City will begin marketing to businesses later this year.

C4 Builders, who was the low bidder for the project, will use Afterhours Plumbing of Rockwell, Graham’s Piping of Salisbury, Hinson Electric of Kannapolis and Johnson Roofing of Charlotte to complete the renovations needed at the site. Renovations will cost $5,150,000 and include a new roof, electric and plumbing work, landscaping and parking lot repairs.

The City Council also approved an agreement which will allow the Piedmont School of Music and Dance to end its lease with the City in order to move to a new location. The current location of the Piedmont School of Music and Dance is slated to be part of the Downtown Demonstration Project. The City inherited the leases when the downtown property was purchased. Kannapolis will buyout the lease which was scheduled to end in 2029 for $500,000. The proceeds from the sale of the land for the Demonstration Project will be used for this lease buy out. The Piedmont School of Music and Dance is scheduled to move to a new location in the City later this year as part of the agreement.
