It is another great year to Discover Fun in Kannapolis. The City has announced its lineup of concerts, movies, special events, Intimidators Baseball and of course - fireworks for 2019. All movies and concerts are free to the public and will be held in downtown Kannapolis. Movies and concerts are held at Village Park and Veterans Park.
This week’s events are:
May 9 Farmer’s Market (4 -7 p.m.), corner of Dale Earnhardt Blvd. and Vance Ave.
May 9 Thursdays on Main – Evening (6 – 9 p.m.) – The Tonez will perform at Veterans Park. Food trucks will be on site.
The Tonez are an 8-piece band dedicated to keeping crowds on their feet dancing and enjoying live music. With a growing mix of Oldies, Motown, Rock & Roll, Country, Funk, R&B, and Beach music, The Tonez are deliver a great show.
May 11 National Train Day (10 a.m. – noon) – Village Park
Ride the Rotary Express Train at Village Park for $1.50, and participate in free arts and crafts at Shelter D.
As part of the celebration, the North Carolina Department of Transportation will have Amtrak train fares for $1, May 10-11. Find tickets at NCbyTrain.org, and use discount code V335.
May 11 Kannapolis Cruise-In (1 – 7 p.m.) – Downtown Kannapolis
May 12 Jazz (1 – 3 p.m.) – Toni Tupponce Trio will perform at Veterans Park. Food trucks will be on site.
The Toni Tupponce Trio is a section of A Sign of the Times, a 22-piece Jazz band from Charlotte, dedicated to keeping the legacy of the African Diaspora alive through music, dance and spoken word. A Sign of the Times has been performing since 2002, and Tupponce was voted “Sexiest Voice in Charlotte” by the Charlotte Magazine.
Children 18 & under must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. No pets or smoking please.
Outside alcohol is not permitted. Food/Drinks will be available for purchase, or attendees can bring their own. Lawn chairs are permitted. You can download the summer’s entire schedule here.
