Today, the last beam for the Sports and Entertainment Venue was lifted in place by the Barton Malow Company construction crews who are building the facility. Over the last couple of weeks hundreds of residents signed the beam at the Intimidator games and at Kannapolis City Hall. The City of Kannapolis is seeking developers for the Plant 4 Townhouse Project as part of the Downtown Revitalization project. In September 2015 the City purchased 50 acres of land and buildings in the downtown core and adopted a downtown master development plan. Kannapolis City Manager Mike Legg presented the proposed Fiscal Year 2020 budget to the Kannapolis City Council Wednesday evening. The proposed FY 2020 budget is $75,513,726 which includes all seven operating funds of the City. The budget includes no property tax increase. If approved, the current tax rate will remain at .63 cents per $100 valuation - a home valued at $150,000 will pay $945 annually in property taxes for all City services. All City of Kannapolis offices will be closed on Monday, May 27 in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. Offices will reopen on Tuesday, May 28, at 8 a.m. There will be no disruption in garbage and recycling collection service, however, there will be no yard debris collection. All Kannapolis parks will be open for regular operating hours from dawn until dusk. The steel facility which will house the suites, concession kitchens and conference/meeting space is nearing completion. Kannapolis Fire Department is currently conducting its annual “Fill the Boot” campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). Firefighters will be in heavily-traveled areas of the city collecting cash and coins as passersby “fill the boots” of our local heroes. Kannapolis Fire Department does not keep any of those funds.
