It is going to be another great year to Discover Fun in Kannapolis. The City has announced its lineup of concerts, movies, special events, Intimidators Baseball and of course - fireworks for 2016. All events are free to the public and will be held in downtown Kannapolis. Movies and concerts are held at Village Park and Veterans Park and are on various days from May to August.

The entertainment series gets off to a great start with the Jiggy with the Piggy Festival the weekend of May 6-7. The festival features 80 barbeque teams competing in a competition at the North Carolina Research Campus sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society. The festival includes the 600 Festival family movie: Cars 2; and concerts by Darrell Harwood, Emily Minor, the Fantastic Shakers and the Coconut Groove Band. (jiggywiththepiggy.com)

The fun continues with the Concert and Movie Series featuring National Country Group Lonestar on June 4 and National Blues/Rock Artist Delbert McClinton on August 13. The concert series also includes a diverse mix of musical genres such as the ever popular Charlotte Symphony performance June 30; the Andrew Theilen Big Band, and the Breakfast Club and Gump Fiction.

Family Movies in the Park are every other Friday night at Village Park and this year includes: Minions, Inside Out, The Martian, The Peanuts Movie, The Good Dinosaur, and Stars Wars Episode VI – Return of the Jedi.

Run Kannapolis, a series of 5K walks and runs celebrating the City’s Discover Healthy Living brand will be held throughout the year with special prizes awarded for the number of runs you complete.

Stories Under the Stars returns this year at the Kannapolis Library. These special children’s events include John Fowler, Storyteller and Old Time Musician; Flow Circus, Piedmont Dance Ballet, and Humorist and Storyteller Martha Reed Johnson.

The Kaleidoscope Cultural Arts Festivals
return in April, May, June, August, September and October. These festivals feature more than 100 local artisans such as painters, jewelry makers, woodcarvers as well as other family friendly activities.

Other events include the Kannapolis Cruise In - the second Saturday of the month, Fall Family Festival, Kannapolis Intimidators Baseball Games,(kannapolisintimidators.com), Christmas Events and much more.
